Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

Here's a dare for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of scary movies: Sit down with your significant other and view Together. This independent film success of 2025 just made its streaming debut via Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like standard physical horror, but beneath Together lies a deep meditation about our choices in loving each other.

An Introductory Film Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together represents the introductory feature for director Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, partners that have stayed together for over ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, the two stars contribute a unique chemistry to their characters, expertly portraying both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The narrative commences when Millie and Tim transition from the metropolis to the countryside for her career. A familiar story element, admittedly, but that’s largely where the cliches conclude. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their country house, a storm hits, and the two discover an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and eventually escaping, a strange force takes hold of the pair. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a slow burn horror experience, interspersing bits of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes during something disturbing). Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and delivers them in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie’s confidence and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and distant from his social circle. He dreads the concept of completely losing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie never makes either of his characters the obvious villain.

Tim and Millie face the sort of issues that come with any relationship after ten years. Deep down, they still love one another. They still laugh together, provide solace, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and fully committing to another person, the allegory avoids being overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the frights and the fights work together in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the film’s ultimate message about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that single viewers have seen the movie as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale plant anxiety and horror, or a positive outlook on love? Will you identify in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your partner and state, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can embark on right now.
