Commanders Coach Accepts Responsibility for Keeping Daniels in Game Prior to Serious Injury

Washington Commanders leader Coach Quinn has stated he shares a portion of the blame for a serious ailment to the squad’s quarterback, Jayden Daniels.

Details of the Injury and Situation

Daniels, who had one of the greatest rookie campaigns in history last season, sustained a displaced left elbow in Sunday’s defeat to the Seahawks. Although Daniels passes with his dominant arm, the injury has left his season uncertain. The injury was serious enough that the TV coverage avoided showing repeats and multiple players looked away as Daniels was attended to by team doctors.

Backlash and Coach’s Response

Coach Quinn came under scrutiny as many felt the rookie should not have been on the playing surface to begin with. The injury happened in the fourth quarter with the Commanders trailing 38-7, making a recovery unlikely. It is typical in these situations for teams to put in their reserve QB to prevent injuries to their first-string player.

“I get that. I’ve been thinking about it nonstop, too, and, man, I erred,” he said of his decision to keep Jayden in the game. “That is 100% on me.”

Aftermath and Team Prospects

Mariota will be the team’s starting quarterback going forward, but he will guide a roster in disarray. After making the conference title game last season thanks to the rookie’s excellence, the team have faced difficulties this season. They also lost cornerback Lattimore (ACL tear) and wide receiver Luke McCaffrey (collarbone fracture) on Sunday, and have a host of other key players on injured reserve. The Commanders are three wins and six losses on the season, and it would take a massive reversal for the club to reach the playoffs.
